Create a Lifecycle Nudge Flow
Table of Contents
Difficulty level: Easy
It's a good idea to give a good simple nudge to customers who have yet to complete key tasks related to your application. For example, creating a flow to guide the user into inviting a teammate.
Flow Use Case: Inviting a teammate
Many applications are better when an entire team is using them. In those cases, getting users to invite their coworkers is a key to success.
Step 1: Choose a Slideout/Modal pattern
You can choose to start with a slideout where clicking on the Call to Action (CTA) button takes the user to the "invite a teammate" page.
Step 2: Design the step and add a 'Next step' button
Design up to your preference! For this example, we'll just be using a short message.

Step 3: Creating a Tooltip to target the invite button
A good way to guide the user is to highlight specific actions into completing the key task. In this case, add a tooltip to the button so your users know specifically where to click!
Again, design to your preference and make sure the right target element is selected!
Step 4: Review your flow and start targeting in Studio
Once you're satisfied with your flow, go into the flow's settings page in Studio and start targeting!
Step 5: Targeting the right users
This is an instance where sending User Properties and Events to Appcues is very useful. In this case, we use an Event to track whether a user has invited a teammate and only show the flow if they have not completed the task. Below we have targeted customers that created an account more than 7 days ago and haven't invited a teammate.
Step 6: Publish and test
Congratulations! You've just finished creating your nudge flow! Feel free to test first (see: Testing Flows) and publish when you're ready.
Additional Example: Creating a task
Just like inviting teammates, there are other actions users should take that are crucial to getting value out of your product. Here's a very similar example to the above, wherein the targeting we would substitute "Created a Task" for "Invited a teammate".
