Funnels
Table of Contents
Funnels help you understand how users move through a sequence of steps—so you can spot drop-off, prove impact, and take action without leaving Appcues.

Funnel chart
The funnel chart visualizes how many users progress from one step to the next.
For each step, you can see:
- Users at this step: the number of users who reached the step
- Conversion and drop-off: how many users moved forward vs stopped relative to the previous step
Add an event
Funnels are built from events, including experience events, email events, push events, and application/track events.

Step order
Funnels measure completion across steps in sequence (step 1 → step 2 → step 3, etc.).
Conversion window
Funnels also use a conversion window, which sets the maximum allowed time between the first and last step.

Filters
At the top of the page, you can filter the funnel by:
- Timeframe (date range): controls the window when the first step must have occurred
- User segment: limits the funnel to a subset of users
Segment filtering is evaluated based on current segment membership.
See who converted or dropped off
Hover or click into a step to open the user list for either:
- Converted users, or
- Dropped-off users

From the user list, you can:
- Search users
- Sort users by when they completed the event
- Export the list of users as a .csv

FAQ
Does the funnel require events to happen in order?
Yes. Funnels measure completion across steps in sequence.
Can I mix different event types?
Yes. Funnels can include experiences, goals, and custom track events in the same funnel.
What’s the difference between the date range and conversion window?
The date range determines when step 1 happens; the conversion window controls how long users have to reach the last step after starting step 1.
What should I choose for the conversion window?
Pick a window that matches the real-world behavior you expect:
- Short (minutes–hours) for tightly coupled flows
- Longer (days) for onboarding or adoption journeys
