Read a user's activity
See what a user did, which experiences they saw, and where they got stuck.
The Activity tab on a user's profile shows what one user did in your product and in Appcues over the last 90 days: their sessions, the pages they viewed, the events they sent, and every experience they saw and how far they got. Use it to debug why someone didn't finish a Flow, to prepare for a customer call, or to check that your events arrive.
Open a user's activity
- Click Audiences in the left sidebar, then Users.
- Search for the user and click them. Their profile opens.
- Click the Activity tab.
See Find and inspect users for help finding a user.

Choose the date range
Use the Date control at the top to pick a range, such as Last 7 days, Last 30 days, or Last 90 days. The tab shows the time zone next to the dates. Activity older than 90 days isn't shown.
Every section follows the range, except Seen earlier in the last 90 days and the Activity calendar, which always cover 90 days.
Updated shows when the tab last loaded. Click the refresh icon to load new activity. New events can take a few minutes to appear.
Get an AI summary
Click Summarize activity in Activity summary. Appcues AI reads the user's activity for the date range and writes a short summary, with a label such as Engaged, Going quiet, or Stuck:
- What they did: the pages and features they used.
- What they saw: the experiences shown to them.
- Where they got stuck: where they stopped or left.
- Suggested next step: what you could do for this user.
- Key moments: notable points in their activity. Click the link next to one to jump to it in the timeline.
Click Show full summary to read it all, or Regenerate to write it again. If the user has too little activity, the summary says Not enough activity.

Read the overview
Overview counts the user's activity in the date range, with the change from the previous period of the same length:
- Sessions: visits to your product. Events your server sends don't create sessions.
- Active days: days with at least one session.
- Experiences seen: how many experiences were shown to them.
- Ended early: how many experiences stopped before the end.
Top pages lists the pages and page groups they viewed most. Pages appear by group if you've set up page groups.

Read the activity calendar
The Activity calendar shows the last 90 days as a grid, one square per day. The darker the square, the more sessions that day. A marked square means the user only sent server events that day, which doesn't count as an active day.
Above the grid, Last active shows the user's last session. If the user only sends server events, it shows Last server event instead.
Click a day to filter the timeline to it. Click the day filter's close icon to remove it.

Check the experiences they saw
Experiences seen lists every experience shown to the user in the date range:
- Type and Times shown.
- Outcome: how the latest showing ended.
- Last seen: when it was last shown.
Click Ended early above the table to list only the experiences that stopped before the end. Pins, Banners, and Embeds are grouped separately, and so are experiences seen earlier in the 90 days.

What the outcomes mean
| Outcome | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Completed | They reached the end. |
| Closed | They closed one-step content. That's the normal way to finish it. |
| Responded | They answered a survey. |
| Shown, no response | It appeared and they didn't interact with it. |
| Dismissed | They closed it before the last step. |
| Skipped | They used Skip. |
| Left | No end event. They left the page or app at this step. |
| Items left | They didn't finish every Checklist item. |
| Error | It failed to show at this step. |
| In progress | They were active in the last 30 minutes. |
Dismissed, Skipped, Left, Items left, and Error all count as Ended early. Click What do these outcomes mean? on the tab for the same list.
Open one experience
Click an experience in the table. A panel opens with:
- How many times it was shown in the range, and a link to Open the experience.
- Each time it was shown, with its outcome, date, and duration. Click Show in timeline to jump to it, or View first event to see the first event.
- Steps: each step, where they stopped This time, and how often each step was reached In range.

Read the timeline
The Timeline lists the user's sessions and server events, newest first. Days with no activity are collapsed, for example "3 days without activity". Click a session to expand it, or click Expand all.
Each session lists what happened in order: the pages and screens they viewed, the events they sent, the experiences they saw, and the goals they reached. A legend shows the color for each kind:
- Flows, checklists & surveys
- Pin & banner clicks
- Page & screen views
- Custom events
- Goals
- Server: events sent from your server or integrations, grouped by time instead of by session.
To narrow the timeline, use Events to show one kind, or Page to show activity on one page or page group. Click Skip to next session to move past a long session.

See an event's details
Click any item in the timeline. A panel opens with its details, such as the page, the experience and step, the source, and every attribute sent with it. From the panel:
- Click Prev or Next to move through the session.
- Click Show only this event to filter the timeline to that event.
- Click Copy link to share the event with a teammate.

If the Activity tab looks empty
- No sessions, only server events. The user exists, but Appcues isn't loading in their browser or app. Check your installation. See Test and debug your Appcues installation.
- No experiences seen. Check the Eligibility tab to see whether they qualify for your experiences. See Find and inspect users.
- Recent activity is missing. New events can take a few minutes. Click the refresh icon.
- Activity is older than 90 days. The tab only covers the last 90 days.
