Table of Contents
The Appcues AI settings page is where you shape how Appcues AI behaves for your whole team — the persistent context it applies to every answer, the memory it keeps, and the data and features it's allowed to use. Everything on this page is admin-only.
The Appcues App is in beta and rolling out gradually. If you don't see it yet at app.appcues.com, it hasn't been enabled for your account. See Introducing the Appcues App for more.
Open the settings
Go to Settings > Appcues AI.
You'll see three sections: AI Assistant (context rules), Your AI Memory, and Enhanced AI features.
Only admins can view and edit this page. If you don't see it, ask an admin on your account to make the changes.

Set context rules
Context rules are persistent instructions that guide how Appcues AI responds. Appcues AI applies them to every conversation across your team, so it's the place to encode facts about your product, audience, and house style once instead of repeating them in each prompt.
- In the AI Assistant section, click into the Context rules box.
- Enter the guidance you want Appcues AI to follow. For example:
- Business context: your product type, audience, industry, or goals.
- Writing preferences: tone of voice, or a language to respond in.
- Click Save. Appcues AI applies the rules to new conversations going forward.
Keep rules specific and durable. "All written copy should be professional and suited to enterprise IT admins" is useful; one-off instructions belong in the prompt itself.
Manage your AI Memory
Beyond context rules, Appcues AI keeps its own memory for you so it can give faster, more relevant answers over time. Memory is per-user — it's based on your conversations and isn't shared with the rest of your team.
Appcues AI decides on its own when something is worth remembering, and you can also ask it directly (for example, "Remember that our trial is 14 days"). The Your AI Memory section shows what it currently has stored. If it hasn't saved anything yet, it reads "No memory stored yet" — that's normal.
To reset what it knows, clear your memory in this section. Appcues AI may still store new things in later conversations.
Memory is stored on Appcues infrastructure alongside your conversation history. It's not used to train any AI model.
Control enhanced AI features
The Enhanced AI features section holds three toggles that control what data Appcues AI can use and which capabilities are turned on.
Send user data to Appcues' LLM provider
When this is on, Appcues AI can answer questions about the performance of your experiences, your users, and their activity. Answering those questions requires sending user data — including user properties, events, and account or group data — to Appcues' LLM provider.
Turn it off to stop that data from being sent. Doing so disables the enhanced AI features that depend on it.
Allow MCP-compatible client access
When this is on, team members can connect MCP-compatible clients like Claude and ChatGPT to your Appcues account through the Appcues MCP Server.
For setup steps in your AI client, see Use the Appcues MCP Server with your AI tools.
Allow automatic AI-generated insights and actions
When this is on, Appcues AI proactively surfaces suggested experiences and actions on the Recommendations page instead of only responding when asked. Turn it off if you'd rather not receive automatic recommendations.
To learn what appears there and how to act on it, see Review and act on recommendations.
