Date range selector Workflow Start Analytics Email Analytics Push Analytics Workflow Finish Analytics Messages User Lists

You can view the analytics for your workflow by selecting the workflow and switching into the Analytics view.

When you are in the analytics view clicking on a node with analytics will display a panel with the analytics for that node.

Date range selector

The date range selector allows you to filter the time period of all metrics shown on the Workflow canvas. This selector allows you to look at metrics for any period up to a maximum of 60 days.

Workflow Start Analytics

When you click on the start step of a workflow when in the analytics view a panel will display that shows the total number of users in that have started the workflow in the selected time period and a calculation of the change in users compared to the previous period.

The accompanying graph shows the number of users who started the Workflow on each day during the selected time period.

Note: Users who time out will continue to show up on Start analytics, but may not be represented on Finish analytics.

Email Analytics

You can view the analytics for any email by clicking on an email node in a workflow.  A chart of engagement metrics is shown, as well as a table of all metrics for the selected time period.

The following metrics are given for each email node:

  • In Queue: The email has been queued for sending but has not been sent yet.  This could be due to sending windows, rate limits, or user email frequency limits.
  • Sent: Appcues successfully sent the email, and the email must be accepted by the recipient's email service provider in order to be delivered.  Appcues does not attempt to send emails to users on suppression lists, or to invalid or malicious addresses.
  • Delivered:  The email was sent and accepted by the recipient's email service provider.
  • Opened: Appcues was able to confirm that the recipient opened the email. The open rate is calculated as a percentage of delivered.
  • Clicked: Appcues was able to confirm that the recipient clicked a link within the email. The rate is calculated as a percentage of delivered.
  • Unsubscribed: The recipient clicked on the email's unsubscribe link and was added to the Unsubscribed suppression list. The unsubscribe rate is calculated as a percentage of sent.
  • Bounced: The email was attempted to be delivered to the recipient's inbox but ultimately failed.  An email can “soft bounce” and be retried for up to 8 hours before being considered bounced.
  • Skipped: Appcues did not attempt to send the email for various reasons, such as:
    • The recipient is on a suppression list.
    • The email address is invalid.
    • The recipient is dangerous or malicious.  This means that it is considered high risk and should not be sent to, as it could harm your sender reputation by being associated with spam or other malicious activities; this could include spam traps, addresses on known blacklists, or addresses with suspicious domain characteristics like newly created domains or subdomains often used by spammers.

For each metric, a user list is available to view by clicking on the count of users.

Push Analytics

You can view the analytics for any push message by clicking on a push node in a workflow.  A chart of engagement metrics is shown, as well as a table of all metrics for the selected time period.

The following metrics are given for each push node:

  • Sent: The total number of times a push was sent to users.
  • Opened: The total number of sent push messages that were opened.

Workflow Finish Analytics

Clicking on the Finish node lets you see the rate of users who finish the workflow by satisfying the workflow conditions vs. those who have started it.  Both the overall finish rate and a chart of daily starts and finishes are displayed.

In order to accurately calculate the Finish rate and effectiveness of your Workflow, only users that started the Workflow within the selected time range are accounted for in the Finish analytics.  This means that other users may have finished the Workflow during the selected time Window, but they are not represented here.

Messages

The Finish node also shows how many of each message was sent to users who started the Workflow in the selected time range.   For a user to be considered “Reached” by a message, they must have either been sent a push message or had an email delivered.  If a goal or segment is used as Finish criteria, the number of users who received a message who also finished the Workflow is also displayed.

⚠️ Note: These metrics may differ from those on the push or email nodes because the email and push node metrics do not consider whether the user started the Workflow in the selected time range.

User Lists

For most metrics, a list of users is available.  For example, you can see exactly which users started your workflow or had an email successfully delivered for the selected time period.
When viewing a list of users you can export that list by selecting the Export option.
