Appcues shows each user by their user ID and each account by its account ID unless you tell it otherwise. Set an identifier to show a property instead, such as a full name for users and a company name for accounts, so lists and profiles read "Jane Doe" and "Acme Co." instead of "user-10s9-29b3" and "group-17430283".

                    Prerequisites

                    • The Publisher or Admin role.
                    • Your app sends the property you want to use. User properties come from Appcues.identify(), and account properties from Appcues.group(). See Choose which events and properties to send.

                    Set the identifiers

                    1. Click your account menu at the bottom of the left sidebar, then Settings.
                    2. Under Data, click Accounts & Users.
                    3. Under Account identifier, choose the account property to show, such as companyName. It starts as the account ID.
                    4. Under User identifier, choose the user property to show, such as fullName or email. It starts as the user ID.
                    5. Under Which attribute has your users' email?, choose the property that holds each user's email address, or leave it on Automatic. Appcues uses it for user avatars (from Gravatar) and company logos. Email sending and NPS surveys keep their own settings.
                    6. Click Save. "Settings saved." appears, and the new identifiers apply for everyone on your team.

                    Where the identifiers appear

The identifiers replace the IDs wherever Appcues shows a user or an account, including:

                    • The Users and Accounts lists in Audiences, and each profile's header.
                    • An account's Users tab.
                    • User lists in Segments and in experience analytics.

The user ID and account ID are still on each profile, with a copy button.

                    If a name doesn't show

                    • A user or account shows its ID or a blank instead. It doesn't have a value for the property you chose. Ask your developer to send it for every user or account.
                    • The property isn't in the list. Appcues hasn't received it yet. Check what your app sends. See Test and debug your Appcues installation.
                    • You can't change the settings. You need the Publisher or Admin role. See Manage your team.

Other data settings, such as raw event recording, are still in Appcues Studio.

                    Still stuck?

Collect the following and contact support:

                    • Your Account ID, from Settings > Apps & Installation > Web.
                    • The property you chose, and a user ID or account ID that doesn't show the name.
                    • A screenshot of the Accounts & Users page.
