To drive more impact with your flows, make sure the flow is triggered at the right time. This is what defines what should start the flow, and how often it should be displayed.
Schedule your Flow

When should this flow launch?
- When the user reaches the page
This option is selected by default. This means that when a user reaches the page selected in your page targeting, Appcues will evaluate whether to show them this flow.
- When an event occurs
This feature is called Event Triggering and the Flow displays when a specific event occurs. Event triggering will show that flow immediately after the event occurs, rather than requiring a page load. You can use events sent via your installation as well as no-code events created with our feature Click to Track.
- Only manually
The flow will be displayed based on Permalink, Checklist, Launchpad, Pin or Button. A flow can be set to be triggered when the user reaches the page or when an event occurs and also be triggered manually if made available that way.
Flows that are manually triggered ignore all other targeting rules like frequency, page and audience.

How often should we show this flow?
The frequency options control how often users who qualify for the flow will see it.
- Show once
Once the user has seen the flow, it will not show again. This is dependent on a user seeing or completing the first step of the flow, and behavior can vary slightly depending on whether the first step is a Modal, Slideout, Tooltip, or Hotspot. For more information, be sure to check out our documentation on Groups in Appcues.
- Show every time
The flow will show every time the user qualifies for the parameters you've set in Audience Targeting - even if they have seen it already.
You are able to target your flows to something in between these options (ie. show a flow 3 times). For a deeper dive into what these options mean and how to set them up, check out our documentation on Setting Up Flow Frequency.
